Yes its become a media story too :). Its actually come down from before, it was up to 70,000$. I guess they were some bogus bids there.
However you should commend some ever enterprising people who have moved in to cash on the publicity surrounding this, if you search on ebay now, you can find people selling shirts (which say : I ate my virgin cheese sandwich ! etc.. ) and mugs and a whole lot more.
